The high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) test measures very low levels of C-reactive protein, a substance made by the liver that rises when there is inflammation in the body. The high sensitivity version can detect small changes in CRP that standard CRP tests may miss. This test is often used to help assess a person's risk of heart disease and related cardiovascular events, as low-grade inflammation in blood vessels may be linked to cardiovascular risk. It may be used along with other tests and risk factors, such as cholesterol levels, to give a fuller picture. Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider.
